Colder Weather & Belgian Waffles

This week we had a visit from some friends of ours.

I've known this delightful lady since we're both little, wide-eyed 18-year-olds about to set off on a whirlwind adventure called Life Action. We were far away from home up at the training camp in Michigan and found comfort in the fact that we were both new and trying to figure out what exactly it was we were supposed to be doing.

Our first conversation went something like this:

Me: Hi. I'm Breanne.
Her: Is this your first year here?
Me: Yes!
Her: Me too!
Me: Your new here, like me!

And then we hugged and laughed at each other and a friendship was born :)

So much has changed since that first conversation. We're wives now, with homes of our own.
She lives in a bustling metropolis, I live pretty much in the middle of no where.
Her and her husband live in an apartment, Jonathan and I live in a house on a hill.
She walks out her door onto busy streets, I walk out onto grass and wind blown landscapes
But as different as our lives are now, we still have that same bond of friendship and understanding.

They came in Monday from their big city to come enjoy all that our little hilly area has to offer. Unfortunately, what it had to offer them during their days here wasn't what they were expecting. Let's just say we were bundling up in scarves and gloves and big coats, when we didn't think we would have to ;)

Me and this girl have a love for the uniquely beautiful things. So, along with our understanding husbands, we spent quite awhile sifting through the massive amounts of curious (and tragically overpriced) things at our local Antique Mall.

And we were just convinced that we had found an entrance into Narnia.
I'm sad to report there were no snowy pine trees or fauns inside....

Then we stopped at Barnes & Noble for a coffee break and good conversation. We talked about our ministry aspirations, what city life really looks like and why we all just honestly love being able to experience God's gift of marriage.
I also found some beautiful books on sale. Yay! :)

Afterwards we ended up back at our place. The husbands went off-roading in their Jeep and the wives stayed back to fix food and play fetch with the cat ;) Eventually we all got back together to have breakfast for dinner and sit around for even more fellowship and good conversations.

We loved getting to know more about both of you and your lives. You're both such a sweet, godly example of marriage and Christ-likeness. And we really hope that you'll give our area another chance once warmer weather decided to actually stick around. Thanks for all the good times, good laughs and for putting up with our 'untamed gazelle' of a dog.
Now it's our turn to come for a visit! ;)

ps. I was also happy to find a package
from another old friend when I got home.
She had sent me a hand-picked journal,
and extremely sweet note.
Can I just say this woman is the best?!
She knows me well ;)
