Our Littles

I saw it after we got home from the hot, sticky day outside. When I unpacked these images from my camera it was there, simple and glorious.

The way little hands clasp big ones. That safe connection.
The way her tiny toes curl up, kick up and sweep you up in their joy.

This one smiling mischievous and laughing.
That one with his deep, thoughtful eyes. Observing.
And that determined, concentration face he put on that made me laugh out loud.

The Uncle that made sure his nephew got to play like the other kids.
Her gleeful jumping and screaming giggles.
The way she holds that bottle in her tiny hands and holds my heart too.
Those little, bare feet wading into the warm gold streaming through the grass.

That face. That joy-full, toothless, wide smile. It melts me.
The sound of his laughter, like a song. And how he smiles despite those fresh scars.
And there are are his cheeks painting, rosy-red, this portrait of boyhood.

Her silky hair reaching out to catch the sunlight and hold it in those wispy-white curls.
Her bottom lip sitting there like a tiny rosebud, ready to blossom and laugh.
And her eyes, how they make the sun flicker like starlight.

How can you not see it?
How can you not feel it in this, their breathing and living innocent?
It's all right there.

His handiwork is woven through all this. He has revealed Himself here.

Sometimes it's a flaming bush or a parted sea, but most of the time? It's in ways you wouldn't expect, in the simple, everyday experiences. He always gives us reason to praise and know Him more. All around there are displays of His glory. I just want to have the eyes of grace to see it.

And today, I saw it in in these tiny embodiments God's Creation that I'm proud to call nieces and nephews. May I live like them. Wide-eyed with wonder, ready to laugh and love. Free indeed, in Him.

p.s be watching for a related post in the near future
where I get to share what our nephew, Amos, taught me
through the car accident that took his mother's life
and changed us all forever. Praising God for how
He works....

  3. Camie took my words - I was tearing up over the pictures of Amos and smiled happily through them at the picture of him and Jordan (?) going down the slide.

Lovely post and looking forward to the next one.
