I've discovered that I love to give personalized gifts. It's just fun to create or find something completely unique for the people you care about. But I've also discovered that I'm a late gift-giver. Oh, I like to give gifts alright they just end up getting to the person a lot later than the day they are supposed to....I need to be more responsible! Well....I don't know, maybe it's kinda fun for a gift to arrive after the intended special day. Perhaps it gives people something more to look forward to. :)
Well, recently me and my sister, Melissa, celebrated our birthday on June 5th. I love that we share a birthday. But we don't always get to be together on that day because we live in different states. I wanted to get her something special, and was all set to peruse the online aisles of Etsy to find that unique gift when, lo and behold, Jonathan came up with the idea to go to Hobby Lobby and get everything we needed to make her a necklace ourselves.. I love that my man is creative too! :)
Here's how it turned out:
We got the bee charm because her name means 'honey bee' and the rest of it was just to make it look vintage and feminine, two things Mel loves :)
We also bought an engraving tool to put a special message on the necklace. It's part of a quote from Mother Teresa that says, "....Life is a song, sing it..."
If you know Melissa, you know that she loves music and loves to sing. So I thought the quote was fitting ;)
Jonathan did a fine job of engraving!
See the pink and green bead part? Yea, that was just an old earring that I had lost the pair to. I love the freedom you have to be creative when you do things yourself!
So I sent it off and then waited (impatiently) to get my gift from Melissa. It finally came today along with a hilarious letter. I love this necklace! For those of you who might not recognize this, it's the necklace that Arwen wears in Lord of the Rings called The Evenstar. Yep, that's right, I'm a LOTR nerd. I've wanted this necklace for forever and my wonderful sister knew that. So I was pretty happy to open up the package and find this inside:
Well, there ya go. Here's to the ones who don't give gifts exactly on time. It's ok, don't feel bad. You're not alone. And also, don't be afraid to be a bit nerdy at times ;)
PS. We recently discovered this little gem at McDonald's. The new Chocolate Chip Frap. Do yourself a favor and go get one. Now. It's carmel, chocolatey goodness will make any day instantly better. And it's a bit cheaper than Starbucks too...enjoy!

Haha! You're such a cute nerd (:
ReplyDeleteand Starbucks and I are done. Moving on to better and cheaper coffee!
Brea, you are so a.m.a.z.i.n.g!! And even after traveling with you for a whole year, I still am amazed at how much we are alike! That necklace is super cute, by the way!! MybirthdaywasinMarchilovelategifts. Hehe, just kidding. =D
ReplyDeleteOh, and I commented back at you on my blog, but then realized you might not see it...SO...I'm doing it again on here! =D I'm currently using the Canon Rebel T2i, and the lens I was using for the picture was the EF 1.8 (a non-zooming lens that makes amazing "blurry" in the background - if you want to take amazing portraits, BUY THIS LENS! It was only $120!!). I'm upgrading to a better camera in a few months (hopefully!!) - can't WAIT!! Yay for Canon cameras!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments ladies, you really make my day :) And Kellie thanks for the info, we just might have to get that lens. We are also hoping to upgrade cameras as well. It's all about saving up :) And yes, yay for Canon cameras!
